Match Protection to Equipment Fragility
Specify Classic for highly sensitive or heavy systems requiring maximum shock and vibration isolation. SuperMAC provides strong isolation in a narrower case and can be configured with a removable rack, while MAC Rack offers a compact solution for moderately fragile equipment.
Min Mac, Euro-V and V-Series suit medium-duty systems requiring a square-hole steel rack. BlackBox provides light-duty shock protection in an off-the-shelf format, while ProRack uses a fixed frame for rugged electronics that do not require isolation.
Choose Isolation Based on Transport Risk
Base the decision on the equipment’s fragility rating and expected transport environment, not simply its weight or value. Use a shock-mounted Peli-Hardigg family where impact or vibration could cause damage. ProRack’s fixed frame is more appropriate for rugged electronics that do not require isolation.
Calculate the Complete Installed Payload
Provide the complete installed payload, equipment fragility rating, centre of gravity and weight distribution across the rack. Include shelves, drawers, cabling, power distribution and other permanently mounted components.
Shock mounts must be matched to the actual system mass and its distribution, not simply the maximum payload rating of the case. Significant equipment changes should therefore be reviewed to ensure the isolation system remains correctly tuned.
Allow for Connections and Airflow
Measure the deepest installed component, including rear connectors, cable bend radii, strain relief and airflow clearance. Also account for rear-mounted PDUs, patch panels, cable looms and service access.
Do not confuse nominal rack depth with total usable clearance inside the case. Super-V is available with 24- and 30-inch rack depths, while Classic-V provides a deeper 33-inch option for longer equipment installations.
Plan Rack Height Beyond Equipment Units
Protect Connections and Maintain Field Access
Confirm that the front and rear lid depths accommodate switches, handles, connectors and permanently attached cable assemblies without contact during transport. For operation directly from the case, plan cable exits, bend radii, ventilation and service access before installation.
Keep cables clear of gasket surfaces, latches and the movement envelope of the shock-mounted rack. Accessories such as removable castors and coupling catches can also improve handling and help secure multiple cases during deployment.
Assess the Complete Transport Profile
Consider the full logistics profile, including handling methods, drop exposure, sustained vibration, stacking loads, pressure changes and salt-laden environments. The required protection level may differ significantly between dedicated road transport and repeated commercial air or military deployment.
Check the complete packed weight and external dimensions before selecting castors, lifting arrangements or palletisation. Carrier restrictions, aircraft loading limits and dangerous-goods regulations apply to the complete system and its contents, not only to the rack case.
